Jersey books

We have a few copies of the newly released books ‘The Occupation of Jersey in Objects’ and ‘The Jersey Norman Story 1000 years’ that have been researched, written and published locally.

The Occupation of Jersey in Objects, written by Sarah Grigson, has 220 pages of various items, for example stamps. Jersey’s first postage stamps were issued during the occupation. A local artist was tasked with designing the first stamp, for which the Germans made it clear no reference to the Royal Family could be made. In defiance he secreted a tiny letter ‘A’ in the four corners of the design. What did they stand for? Well, you’ll have to buy the book! Priced at £19.95. (Cash only please)

The Jersey Norman Story 1000 Years is in both English and Jerriais. Written by Jean Treleven and Geraint Jennings, it starts with an overview of the Duke of Normandy’s rule in 933, moving on to the lasting heritage such as the language, law, land holding and the church. This one is priced at £9.95. (again, cash only)

Perfect for a Christmas gift or a local reference book for your library!
