A message from the Constable
The flurry of elections over and business resumed, I am back in the office and delighted to be your Constable for the next four years.
I start by thanking not only those parishioners who so kindly saw fit to support my own candidature but also ALL those who troubled to exercise their democratic right to vote. St Mary’s turnout of 52.6% was the highest of all parishes (as compared to the island-wide figure of 32%) and this degree of interest can only strengthen St. Mary’s standing when it comes to consider any changes in legislation. So, again, my thanks and congratulations to all parishioners for their participation.
Next, my thanks and commiserations go to my fellow candidates, Mark Baker and Ivor Barette for their own part in this election. I hope that, though not elected on this occasion, they will continue to contribute to the parish community in other ways in the years ahead.
My further thanks go to all who helped in the election process both before and on the day itself to ensure everything ran smoothly; these extends to our Autorise, Jurat Mike Powell, members of the Jersey Electoral Authority, our Parish Hall staff and, last but not least, the volunteers acting as adjoins on the day. In this connection, we were fortunate to have been able to make use of our Community Centre which, at other times, is run by an enthusiastic committee of volunteers providing a range of activities
It goes without saying that I will endeavour to represent the parish and all parishioners to the best of my ability during my term in office. On any matter of concern, please do not hesitate to contact me either direct or, because I’m often tied up elsewhere on States-related matters, through the Parish Hall ([email protected] ) who will be pleased to make arrangements on my behalf. Our Parish Hall is open 9am to 1pm but, where a meeting is appropriate, I am happy to meet in the afternoons and early evenings if it suits.
Again, thank you for your trust and I look forward to working with you over the next 4 years.
David
